TANDEM COMPETITION

HOW IT WORKS

Share the course with your favorite buddy! Halfway through the course, you pass the SCBA to your partner with a change of the cylinder.

Stations of the tandem run

The starting runner begins the run without the SCBA on. This leans against the runner’s leg. The straps are prepared standardized in advance. If desired, the shoulder straps can rest either outside or between the hip belt. You are not allowed to touch the SCBA with your hands before the start signal sounds.

After the start signal, shoulder the SCBA and tighten all four straps of the harness recognizably without touching a step of the HAIX Tower.

After correctly putting on the device, you climb the HAIX Tower. During the ascent, you may take several steps at once. A hi-rise pack is not carried.

On the top platform of the HAIX Tower, you pull a 19-kilogram Donut Roll upwards using a rope. Participants must perform a hand-over-hand movement. There is a special regulation for participants who are less than 1.67 meters tall, please contact us! The donut roll must be lifted over the railing and then deposited in the box provided. The Donut Roll is not allowed to touch the HAIX Tower or fall more than one floor.

When descending from the HAIX Tower, both handrails and each step must be used.

Before you start hitting, you must stand with both feet on the stands of the Challenger Force Machine. You must now use the hammer to hit a weight backwards over a distance of 25.4 centimeters. Hanging, pushing or levering the weight is not permitted. The style of the hammer must not touch the weight to be hit or any other parts of the Challenger Force Machine after it has been picked up. Finally, place the hammer in the 1×1 meter marked area provided for this purpose. It is sufficient if any part of the hammer touches this area or intersects the imaginary vertical planes through the outer edges of the area.

The handover to the second runner must take place after the start runner has completed the Challenger Force Machine, between the rear edge of the Challenger Force Machine and the finish medium. The second runner waits there with an empty carrier plate attached. The cylinder holding strap of this carrier plate is also prepared in the same way for all participants and may not be changed.

Runner 2 opens the cylinder holding strap, releases the cylinder from the first runner’s carrier plate by turning and pressing the quick connect system and hands the cylinder over to the first runner. Runner 1 now guides the cylinder through Starter 2’s cylinder holding strap, pushes the cylinder into the Quick Connect system and closes the cylinder holding strap including the lever. The second runner may now continue the course.

Now you start the 42.5 meter long slalom run. This begins along the outer edge of the competition area and runs around the four hydrants set up, starting with the first one at the height of the door frame, which must also be run around the outside. Each hydrant must be run around in the designated order and must not fall over.

At the end of the course is a filled and pressurized C-hose which must be pulled over a distance of 23 meters between the hydrants and the door frame. From there you have to hit a target with the water jet and close and drop the nozzle. You can open the nozzle before passing through the door frame. However, after dropping it, it must touch the blue floor marking when it has come to rest or at least intersect the imaginary vertical plane through the front outer edge of the surface.

In the victim rescue, you pull a “Rescue Randy” dummy weighing around 80 kilograms over a distance of 30 meters with a rescue grip, running backwards to the finish line. The dummy’s feet must be pulled over the blue floor markings into the finish line. Neither carrying the dummy nor pulling on its clothing or limbs is permitted. If you use force against the dummy, such as hitting or kicking, you will be disqualified immediately. If you fall, you must free yourself without assistance and grasp the dummy again from behind with a rescue handle and continue the run.

Further information

In the tandem competition, a distinction is made between:

Men Overall, Women Overall, Mixed Overall, Over 40, Over 50

A category only comes into being if at least 5 teams in a class are registered. If a class does not materialize, the participants are automatically assigned to the next younger class.

The fastest 3 teams in each category will be honored.

The SCBA cylinder is changed during the tandem run. You can try out the cylinder change and the system on the competition days before your start.

You may only start with one tandem partner within a classification class.

Special features of the FireFit European Championships

It is possible to complete a tandem run on each qualification day. Each run must be registered and paid for separately. Partners may not be changed.

Please note: During the qualification days, you have the option of running a mixed tandem as well as a men’s or women’s tandem. For the finals, you must decide which of the two tandems you want to run with.
